The Art of Selfies

This week was the first week of school and my students and I were very excited to get to know each other! And I think we found a pretty cool way of doing it.

We are a global classroom and one of the things that I am passionate about is teaching kids how to be responsible digital citizens online. We went over our Responsible Use Policy and my expectations for how we will use our BYOD and classroom devices in my class this year. Then we worked in partners to learn about the Art of Selfies - something that is very common these days and almost always the first thing kids do when they start playing with the web cam on our Chromebooks! We looked at the reasons why people take selfies, what you can infer about a person based on the selfies they take, and made our own selfies to share with our class.

Here is the Padlet where the students added their ideas about why people post selfies.

The Global Read Aloud has Begun!

Here are our predictions for The Fourteenth Goldfish by Jennifer L. Holm.  We invited other classes who are participating to post their own predictions, too. What is the farthest connection we have made, so far?
